The Tar Sands Exploration Station is a mobile sculpture that provides visitors the chance to engage with tar sand (a mixture of sand, clay and a small amount of bitumen) that is currently being mined for oil in Alberta, Canada. This interactive artwork contains objects, video, 2D, audio and environmental sample that address the mining, processing, ownership, and aesthetics of this substance and associated issues it raises.

The Tar Sands Exploration Station travelled on its first North American tour during May and June of 2011. The TSES continued to tour across Ontario and the US North East today.
